Fitchburg upends Fisher in Baseball/Softball action today

Fitchburg, MA - Both the Fisher College Baseball and Softball teams fell on the road at Fitchburg State College this afternoon.

Baseball


Mike Oliveira got three hits today at Fitchburg State

Fitchburg State College scored five times in the eighth inning to secure a win over Fisher College, 11-5.

Senior Rob Mondello (Haverhill, MA) started the game on the mound for Fisher (12-14/4-0). He pitched 7.0 innings, giving up six runs on eleven hits. A quartet of Fisher relievers pitched in the eighth inning and gave up five runs on five hits.

Offensively for Fisher, recently named Sunrise Conference Player of the Week, junior Mike Oliveira (Tewksbury, MA) continues to stay red hot as he was 3-for-3 with a run scored. Junior Jose Rodriguez (Clermont, FL) knocked in three runs on his 2-for-5 performance. Senior Edwin Pena (Union City, NJ) had a RBI in the game as well.

Fisher Baseball will return to action this weekend when they host Sunrise Conference rival, the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Game time is set for 2pm on Saturday at Fraser Field in Lynn, MA.

Softball

Game One: Fitchburg State College 15, Fisher College 7

Fitchburg State scored six times in both the second and fifth innnigs as they beat Fisher College, 15-7 in game one of the scheduled double-header.

For Fisher, senior Jackie Streeter (Westminster, MA) went 1-for-2 with a RBI and two runs scored. Junior Amanda Davis (Dos Palos, CA) knocked in three runs as she was also 1-for-2 in the game.

Sophomore Brittany Calderon (Rockland, MA) tossed 4.2 innings and gave up fifteen runs (nine of which were earned) on ten hits and walked six.

Game Two: Fitchburg State College 7, Fisher College 0

The Fisher offense recorded six hits but was unable to push across a run as Fitchburg State took game two, 7-0.

Senior Jackie Streeter (Westminster, MA) went 2-for-3 at the plate in the game two loss.

Freshman Mika Wilson (Chelsea, ME) took the loss as she pitched six innings allowing seven runs (six earned) on ten hits while walking three and striking out four.

With the double-header sweep, Fisher Softball drops its overall record to 6-18 on the 2010 season. Fisher will travel to Vermont on Thursday and Friday before returning home to face Sunrise Conference opponent, the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Game One of the double-header is scheduled for 2pm at Breed Field in Lynn, MA.
