Fisher returns the favor on Fitchburg State

Shanahan (above) struck out 9 in 6 innings of work tonight

Lynn, MA - With revenge on their mind, the Fisher College Falcons came ready to play as they beat Fitchburg State College tonight by a score of 13-3 in front of about 100 people at Fraser Field. In the first meeting between the two clubs this season, Fitchburg State used a five run eighth as they won 11-5 back on April 6th.

Senior Patrick Shanahan (Haverhill, MA) earned his third victory of the season as he pitched six innings, allowing three runs on three hits. He also recorded nine strikeouts; that increases his team leading season total to 49 in 31.1 innings pitched.

Down 2-1 heading into the bottom of the third, junior Jose Rodriguez (Clermont, FL) started the offensive outburst as he hit a towering solo Home Run to right off of Fitchburg State starter Cory Dononvan. It was Rodriguez's fifth home run of the 2010 season and it tied the score at 2. With runners on at second and third, a wild pitch allowed senior Edwin Pena (Union City, NJ) to score to make it 3-2. Junior Reynaldo Nunez (Santiago, Dominican Republic) crossed the plate on senior Zack Thompson's (Salem, MA) RBI fielder's choice. Fisher would score two more runs on RBI singles by junior Mike Oliveira (Tewksbury, MA) and senior Juan Eusebio (Union City, NJ).

Fisher would score again in the fifth when sophomore Gary Lunetta (North Andover, MA) singled home freshman Dave Ferreira (Saugus, MA) to make the score 7-3.

The Fisher Falcon offense was not done as they score five more times in the seventh inning. The scoring was highlighted by Eusebio's two RBI single to left.

On the game, Ferreira went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and Rodriguez added three hits of his own as he was 3-for-4 with two RBI's and two runs scored. Also collecting three hits for Fisher was Eusebio. He went 3-for-5 with three RBIs.

With the win, Fisher improves to 17-16 on the season including an 8-0 mark in Sunrise Conference play. They will travel to Wenham, MA on Thursday to take on Gordon College before heading to Farmington, ME on Friday and then to Randolph Center, VT for the weekend.
