Fisher Women drop a tough one against Johnson & Wales

Lynn, MA - The Fisher College Women's Basketball team lost their final game of 2010 as Johnson and Wales University (RI) beat them 63-52.

Junior Leslie Wadhams (Burlington, VT) scored her season high, 21 points for the Lady Falcons. Freshman Javanna Bernard (Waterbury, CT) dropped in 11 points as the Lady Falcons fall to 1-8 on the season.

Fisher battled hard with the visiting Wildcats in the first half. Wadhams scored nine points in the half while the team played terrific defense, limiting JWU (2-6) to just 26 first half points.

Freshman Kristina Terry (Haverhill, MA) came up huge along the boards as she collected 15 rebounds in the loss. The 15 rebounds is a new career high for Terry. She also added five points.

Both senior Tiffany Beckman (East Hartford, CT) and freshman Kimberly Woolley (Rollinsford, NH) played well for Fisher as they each added six points and multiple assists. Freshman Deanna Morency (Auburn, ME) chipped in three points in her 13 minutes of action.

After the new year, the Women's Basketball team will hit the court on January 8, 2011 when they travel up to Vermont and take on Vermont Technical College in a Sunrise Conference match-up. The next home game for the Lady Falcons will be on January 11, 2011 against non-conference opponent Green Mountain College.

Fisher Men close out 2010 with a loss at MCLA

North Adams, MA - The Fisher College Falcons Men's Basketball team finished the 2010 portion of the 2010-2011 season with a 89-82 loss at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.

Finding themselves down by 9 points with 6 minutes left, the Falcons (3-11) fought their way back. A free throw from senior tri-captain Casey Pursell (Seattle, WA) with 2:48 left to play trimmed the MCLA (7-3) led to just two. However, Fisher shot just 1-for-5 the rest of the game as MCLA secured the victory.

Pursell finished the game with 23 points, a game high while senior tri-captain Louis Williams (Burlington, VT) dropped in 20 points. Both senior Daniel Nance (Brooklyn, NY) and junior Dennis Norford (New Haven, CT) added double digit performances with 12 and 13 points respectively.

Williams also dished out a team high 6 assists and Norford collected 5 rebounds, also a team high.

Before the Falcons begin Sunrise Conference play after the New Year, they will have an exhibition game against Lee Academy. They will then travel up to the Green Mountain state to take on Vermont Technical College (January 8, 2011) and College of Saint Joseph's (January 9, 2011) in Sunrise Conference play.

Late foul lifts Fitchburg State to 1 point win

Fitchburg, MA - A late over the back foul sent Fitchburg State junior Zach Valliere (Douglas, MA) to the line with the game tied at 80. He knocked down 1 of 2 to secure the victory.

Senior Casey Pursell (Seattle, WA) led the Fisher offense as he scored 22 points, a game high, as he shot 9-for-19 from the floor. Senior Louis Williams (Burlington, VT) added 15 points in the loss while classmate Oscar Brown (Buffalo, NY) played well off the bench as he recorded his third double-double of the season, 14 points and 10 rebounds. 

Fisher held a five point lead at the half, 45-40, due to their outstanding shooting from the floor. The Falcons knocked down 19 of their 35 shots (54.3%) including three key three pointers. Williams and Pursell both led the way as they collected 13 points respectively in the half.

In the second half, Fitchburg State came out hot. They shot at a 57.1% (16-for-28) clip from the floor including shooting at 50% from beyond the arc. Fitchburg used two key runs to get themselves back in the game. In the opening six minutes of the second half, FSC went on a 15-10 run to tie the score at 55. They would take a six point lead with 6:35 remaining after a 7-2 run but Fisher would battle back.

In the final minute, both junior Dennis Norford (New Haven, CT) and senior Daniel Nance (Brooklyn, NY) hit back-to-back jumpers to tie the game at 80. With a chance to take the lead, Fisher had possession of the ball with less than 30 seconds left. Pursell missed a tough jumper with 0:03 left and Norford was called for the over the back foul trying to get the offensive rebound.

Norford finished the night with 19 points and 9 rebounds, one board shy of recording his third straight double-double.

Fisher will return to action this Friday night (12/10) as they take on The New School in the inaugural Holiday Hoops Classic presented by Fisher College. This will also be the home opener for the Falcons who have gotten of to a 2-9 start. Game time is set for 7pm at the Fecteau-Leary Gymnasium. The game will also be broadcasted on LETV, Lynn's Educational Television Network.

Curry upends Fisher Women, 70-49

Milton, MA - The Curry College Women's Basketball team remains perfect as they beat the visiting Fisher College Lady Falcons, 70-49.

The Colonials (7-0) had five players score in double-digits as they recorded 35 points in each half. They were led by Ashley Assarian, who had a game high 17 points, and Carolyn Houston, 12 points.

Fisher (1-5) was led by freshman standout Javanna Bernard (Waterbury, CT). Bernard led the team with 15 points scored in her 39 minutes of play. Junior Leslie Wadhams (Burlington, VT) broke out for 13 points while freshman Kimberly Woolley (Rollinsford, NH) dished out four assists. Junior Talia Hyatt (Dorchester, MA) played well as she recorded 7 points and collected a team high 10 rebounds.

The Lady Falcons will return to action on Saturday (12/11) afternoon when they take on Johnson and Wales University (FL) in the inaugural Holiday Hoops Classic presented by Fisher College. The game is set for 11am at the Fecteau-Leary Gymnasium in Lynn, MA. Also, the game will be broadcast on the Lynn Educational Television network.

Both Fisher Collge Basketball teams in action today

Women's Basketball

Lynn, MA - In the inaugural game played at the Fecteau-Leary Gymnasium, the new home of the Fisher College Falcons, it was the visiting Daniel Webster College Eagles who took the win as the beat Fisher 73-47.

For the first five minutes, the Falcons (1-4) and Eagles (2-2) traded baskets and was tied at 9. That is when DWC went on an 18-3 run over the next 10 minutes and take a 17 point lead into half.

Head Coach Sabra Wrice made some quick half time adjustments as the team played well in the second half.

Freshman Javanna Bernard (Waterbury, CT) led the Falcon offense with 17 points and 2 assists over her 32+ minutes of play. Fellow freshman Kimberly Woolley (Rollinsford, NH) chipped in 10 points while senior Tiffany Beckman (East Hartford, CT) continues to add to her 1,000 point total with 11 points in the game.

The Lady Falcons will return to action next Saturday, December 11 when they host Johnson and Wales University (FL) in the second game of the Holiday Hoops Classic presented by Fisher College. Game time is set for 11 am at the Fecteau-Leary Gymnasium in Lynn, Massachusetts.

Men's Basketball

Mount Vernon, OH - In a back and forth battle, Goshen College came out on top as they defeated Fisher College, 86-75 in the A+ Auto-brokers Holiday Invitational hosted by Mount Vernon Nazarene University.

Goshen's biggest lead was eight points with about a minute left to play in the first half. The Falcons (2-8) were able to cut the deficit to just two when the horn sounded due to two three pointers from freshman Elijah Chisholm (East Boston, MA) and senior Louis Williams (Burlington, VT). Williams led the Falcons with 12 points in the first half as the score was 39-37.

In the second half, Goshen was able to used a 12-2 run from the 8 minute mark until the 3:30 mark to seal the victory. Fisher College junior Dennis Norford (New Haven, CT) played an incredible half of basketball as he was able to score 18 of his game high 27 points. He also collected 8 rebounds to push his game total to 11, which gave him his fifth double-double of the season and second consecutive.

Williams finished the day with 14 points. Seniors Casey Pursell (Seattle, WA) and Oscar Brown (Buffalo, NY) also chipped in with a double digit scoring performance with 12 and 11 points respectively.

After a tough 10 game road schedule to begin the season, which saw the team travel to Washington and Ohio, the Men will return home and play against The New School (NY) on Friday night (12/10). Game time is set for 7pm as it will begin the 2010 Holiday Hoops Classic presented by Fisher College.

Mount Vernon comes from behind to beat Fisher Men

Mount Vernon, OH - The Mount Vernon Nazerene University Cougars used a 46 point outburst in the second half to beat the Fisher College Falcons tonight, 78-63 in the first round of the A+ Auto-brokers Holiday Invitational.

The Falcons (2-7) jumped out to a quick lead at the half. Senior Louis Williams (Burlington, VT) and junior Dennis Norford (New Haven, CT) combined for 21 points of Fisher's 43 points as they took a 43-32 lead into the locker rooms.

When the second half began, so did the Cougars. They were able to limit the Falcons to just 20 points (Williams and Norford combined for 11 points) while finding their shot. The Cougars were 14-32, a 53.3%, from the floor where as Fisher shot at just a 22.6% in the second half.

Both Williams and Norford played all 40 minutes with Norford recording his fourth double-double of the season (13 points, 12 rebounds).  Senior Oscar Brown (Buffalo, NY) played well off the bench as he scored 12 points in his 24 minutes of action.

With the loss, Mount Vernon advances to the Championship game against Trevecca Nazarene. The Fisher College Falcons will play Goshen College (IN) in the consolation game slated for a 1 pm tip off. Goshen lost to Trevecca 87-70 in the other semi-final match-up.
