Baseball and Softball fall on the road

Baseball

Jose Rodriguez went 3-7 on the day with 2 RBI

Beaufort, SC - The Fisher College Baseball team dropped both games today at the University of South Carolina-Beaufort.

In the first game of the double header, USC-Beaufort came out on top 7-4. Senior Zack Thompson (Salem, MA) started on the mound for the Falcons going 3.2 innings, allowing five runs on three hits. Seven Falcon hitters recorded a hit while sophomore Gary Lunetta (North Andover, MA) knocked in the only RBI of the game.

Down 5-0 heading into the Top half of the 5th inning, Fisher would mount a four run attack, highlighted by Lunetta's RBI hit. With two outs and the bases loaded, Lunetta stepped up and hit an 0-1 pitch up the middle into center which plated freshman Steve Clark (Haverhill, MA). As the hard hit ball reached the USCB centerfielder, it rolled under his glove and all the way to the warning track. Three more Falcons would score, including Lunetta. USCB would then add two more runs off of freshman pitcher Mike Callahan (Chepachet, RI) to make the final score 7-4.

Game two saw a 6-2 lead slip away for the Falcons. After allowing two runs to cross in the bottom of the first, Fisher fought hard and scored six runs in the 2nd inning with two outs behind consecutive RBI singles from junior Mike Oliveira (Tewksbury, MA), Lunetta, junior Jose Rodriguez (Clermont, FL) and senior Alfredo Torres (Lawrence, MA). Fisher would plate two more runs in the fourth inning when Rodriguez tripled home Oliveira and then scored on Torres' base hit to center.

The USCB attack just kept on coming as they scored seven runs in the final five innings to take the win. Junior Kevin Micheal (Ipswich, MA) took the loss on the mound in relief for Fisher, who now falls to 0-4 on the young 2010 season.

Five Falcons had their first multi-hit game of the season in game two. Senior Edwin Pena (Union City, NJ) and freshman Denon Rushing (Palmdale, CA) went 2-4 while Oliveira, Lunetta, Rodriguez and Torres all collected two hits.

The next game for the Fisher Falcon Baseball team will be next Saturday as they head south to the University of Texas at Brownsville for the start of a tough 12 game road trip.
