Wadhams' late steal seals the victory for Fisher Women

Leslie Wadhams

Senior Leslie Wadhams (Burlington, VT), in her first game back from an injury, stole the ball with less than 30 seconds left to seal the win as Fisher College beat Maine-Augusta, 49-46.

The game did not begin so well for the Lady Falcons (5-12/2-4) as they found themselves down 13 points inside the first 10 minutes. After a timeout taken by Fisher, the Lady Falcons regained their composer and went on a 23-10 run to close out the half, tying the game 23 as the first half horn sounded. The charge was led by senior Tiffany Beckman (East Hartford, CT). The only 1,000 point scorer and Fisher Women's Basketball history recorded 9 of her game high 20 points in the half including three 3 pointers. However it was freshman Javanna Bernard's (Waterbury, CT) 3 pointer which tied the game with 30 seconds left in the half.

Down by 7 with less than five minutes left, the Lady Falcons would mount another comeback. Wadham's collected an important rebound off of a Bernard miss which allowed Beckman to hit another three pointer to bring the score within one. After a UMA miss, Fisher drove down court and it was Wadhams who scored the basket and the proceeding foul shot to give Fisher a slim three point lead. Then with 25 seconds left to play, Wadhams would intercept a UMA pass and hang on to preserve the win.

Freshman Deanna Morency (Auburn, ME) had a fantastic day along the boards as she collected eight rebounds while chipping in with 2 points. Wadhams finished the game with 15 points and Bernard had 9 points.
