Fisher sweep Conference Awards

Boston, MA – After an impressive week, which saw the Fisher Baseball team win 4 games and the Fisher Softball team winning 2 games, the Conferene took notice. On the softball side, junior Jackie Streeter (Westminster, MA) has been named the Sunrise Conference Softball Player of the week and freshman Brittany Calderon (Rockland, MA) has been named the Sunrise Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week. Streeter, batted .733, drove in nine runs, scored six times and ripped a pair of triples this week. She went 3-for-4 with five RBIs and a double in an 11-3 win over Green Mountain. She then went 2-for-3 and scored twice as Fisher completed the sweep of the Eagles in a 14-4 win. Streeter also pounded out six more hits with four more RBIs in a pair of losses to the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Calderon was 1-1 on the week and struck out three batters and allowed six hits and no walks in an 11-3 win over Green Mountain College. She then recorded eight strikeouts and allowed two walks and 10 hits in a 6-5 loss to the University of Maine at Presque Isle.

Here are the award winners for Baseball. Junior Edwin Pena (Union City, NJ) was named the Sunrise Conference Baseball Player of the Week and fellow classmate Patrick Shanahan (Haverhill, MA) was named the Sunrise Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Pena batted .316 with seven RBIs, three runs and two home runs. He blasted a three-run shot in a 12-0 win over the University of Maine Farmington. He then ripped another homer and drove in three more runs in a 12-0 win over the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Pena was also went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI in a 5-1 win over the Owls. Shanahan is honored after his performance in a 12-0 win over the University of Maine Farmington. He fanned 12 batters and held the Beavers to just three hits and three walks.

Fisher Baseball opens up Conference Play with two wins

Haverhill, MA – Fisher College Baseball continued its winning ways this past weekend as they beat Sunrise Conference opponent University of Maine at Presque Isle twice on Saturday, March 28. Fisher used a 5 run fifth, to take the first game 6-1 and belted two home runs in game two to win easily 12-0.

In game one, starting pither Sammy Luciano held UMPI to 1 run, 4 hits and striking out 5 over 7 innings in a complete game effort. Sophomores Mike Oliveira (Tewksbury, MA) and Kevin Ryan (Chesire, CT) help paced the Fisher offense (both were 2-3 at the plate) as they set the table for both junior Edwin Pena (Union City, NJ), who was also 2-3 with an RBI, and senior Eddy Delcarmen (Boston, MA) who had a clutch triple in the fifth inning.

Game two, however, was a different story. Fisher jumped all over UMPI pitching right away as they scored 8 runs in the first inning. Pena continued his season long trend of mashing the ball as he hit a 3 run Home Run and fellow classmate Zack Thompson (Salem, MA) finally broke out of his slump as he hit his first career home run, a 2 run shot over the brick wall in right. Sophomore Kevin Michael (Ipswich, MA)pitched 5 strong shutout innings, as sophomore Mark Dorso (Waterbury, CT) and junior Eddie Guererro (Boston, MA) combined to shutout UMPI, Fisher’s second shutout in as many days.

Fisher’s next game will be Tuesday, March 31st in Haverhill against Sunrise Conference opponent Vermont Technical College.
