Story courtesy of NECC Athletics

Debbie Fuller led the Lady Falcons to two wins

LONGMEADOW, Mass.-The Wildcats of Bay Path were unable to take down the
Falcons of Fisher College today in softball action falling 11-3 in the
opener and 9-3 in the nightcap. The Wildcat trio of senior centerfielder
Sarah Gates (Crown Point, Ind.), senior infielder Sam Gunseth (Swanzey,
N.H.) and freshman shortstop Sarah Safron (Southhampton, Mass.) all notched
multiple hits on the day. Gates batted .667 (2-for-3) adding three runs and
one RBI. Safron and Gunseth each tallied a .600 (3-for-5) batting average;
Safron had three RBI and Gunseth scored two runs.

In game one, Fisher managed to shut-down Bay Path early closing the game in
the fifth due to the mercy run rule. Bay Path struck first with Gates
plating Gunseth on double shot to left field. Safron would continue the
rally singling up the middle to bring Gates home.

Fisher would reply with two runs of their own in the top of the second.
Senior catcher Jackie Streeter (Westminster, Mass.) led off singling to
right field. Streeter would score the run on a fielder's choice beating out
the tag at home plate. Sophomore infielder knotted the game 2-2 after
scoring when sophomore catcher Kellie Lastowski (Turners Falls, Mass.) threw
out sophomore Courtney Gollotto (Johnston, RI)attempting to steal second
base.

The Falcons would erupt in the top of the fourth notching nine runs.
Streeter again started the rally doubling to left field. She would score off
sophomore infielder Debbie Fuller (Hampton, N.H.) single up the middle.
Streeter would finish 3-for-3 with three runs and one RBI, while Fuller also
went 3-for-3 with two runs and three RBI.

Bay Path unfortunately finished the scoring with only one run. Gates score
the final run off a triple shot by junior utility player Katie Begin (Weare,
N.H.).

Senior hurler Jess Nizinski (West Springfield, Mass.) suffered the loss
giving up 11 runs on 12 hits. Nizinski (7-9) struck-out two and walked two
for her 28 batters faced.

Sophomore pitcher Brittany Calderon (Rockland, Mass.) earned the win with
two walks and three batters fanned. Calderon (5-9) gave up three runs on
three hits for her five innings of work.

Bay Path suffered a tough loss in the bottom of the second when freshman
pitcher Ashley Provost (Ludlow, Mass.) suffered a game ending injury after
getting beamed in the arm off a throw down to first by Fisher's Streeter.
Prior to that Provost had held the Falcons scoreless fanning six batters and
allowing only one hit.

Nizinski stepped back in to hurl another inning after retiring due to the
rain. Lastowski suffered the loss allowing six runs on only four hits. She
walked six and struck-out one.

Fisher's closer freshman Mika Wilson (Chelsea, Maine) is now 7-12 on the
season. She gave up three runs on seven hits. She struck-out ten and walked
six batters.

Two Falcons notched multiple hits including Fuller and Calderon each with
two hits. Two Wildcats notched multiple hits as well. Gunseth went 3-for-4
with one run. Safron went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Junior infielder Jessica Priestly (Middleboro, Mass.) was the only other
Wildcat to notch a hit.

Fisher is now 12-22 overall, while Bay Path is 13-15 on the season. Bay Path
will be back in action tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. hosting NECC rival Becker
