Sunrise Conference Basketball Tournament - Day One

Women's Game Recap:
During the first half, Maine-Fort Kent has dominated as #42 Kristen Violette scored 18 points and #50 Ashley Ames chipped in 10 points to pace the Lady Bengals. That trend continued into the 2nd half as UMFK really pulled away and solidified their spot in the championship game. Violette finished with 18 points and Ames' final total was 12 points. Other Lady Bengals scoring in the double digits were #20 Amber Garrison (15 points) and #34 Talisha Herring (10 points) . For the Lady Falcons, #15 Tiffany Beckman scored 18 points in the loss. Maine-Fort Kent advances to the Championship game versus the winner of SUNY-Canton/Maine-Presque Isle tomorrow afternoon (Mar. 1) at 1pm.


Men's Game Preview:

The top ranked Fisher College basketball team will take on the #4 seed College of Saint Joseph's who are led by Sunrise Conference Player of the Year Tyler Herrington. Last weekend these two teams got together in Rutland, VT. College of Saint Joseph's came away with a 10 point win. Fisher College is led by Sunrise Conference All-Conference First team members, sophomore Louis Williams (Burlington, VT) and senior Brandon Hamilton (Sarasota, FL). Fisher has three guys who average double digit points per game. They are Hamilton (20.7), Williams (17.7) and sophomore Casey Pursell (Seattle, WA) (11.9). Hamilton is also the team leader in rebounds with 266 and averaging 11.5 a game. Game is set to tip off at 3pm.

Post-Game Recap:

Fisher College dominates the 2nd half and secures a spot in the Championship Game. Fisher was led by sophomore Louis Williams (Burlington, VT) with 28 points. Also scoring in the double digits for the Falcons were senior Brandon Hamilton (Sarasota, FL) with 15 points, sophomore Casey Pursell (Seattle, WA) with 14 points and sophomore Oscar Brown (Buffalo, NY) who had 12 points. For the Fightin' Saints, Brad Drysdale was the leading scorer with 21 points. Fisher will take on the winner of the 7pm game which features Maine-Machias and Maine-Fort Kent. Championship game time is at 3pm.
