Zack Thompson hit the first Home Run of the 2010 season for the Falcons

Game One: Univ. of Texas @ Brownsville 8, Fisher 2

Brownsville, TX - Senior Rob Mondello (Haverhill, MA) pitched brilliantly through the first four innings as the University of Texas @ Brownsville could manage just one hit. In the fateful fifth inning, TX-Brownsville put up a quick seven spot as the went on to win by a final of 8-2.

Fisher took the lead in the 2nd inning when senior Zack Thompson (Salem, MA) drilled a 1-2 pitch over the right field wall for a two out, two run home run which plated freshman David Ferreira (Saugus, MA), who reached on a single to center. That would be all that Fisher could manage off of UTB starter Dan Gidora. Gidora pitched a complete game (7 innings) allowing just the two runs and striking out five Falcons.

As for Mondello, he went 4.0 + innings and was charged with four runs (three earned) on four hits while recording five strikeouts. A trio of Falcon relievers came in to finish the game, including freshman Jose Paulino (Lawrence, MA), who made his first collegiate appearance.

Senior Alfredo Torres (Lawrence, MA), junior Mike Oliveira (Tewksbury, MA) and sophomore Gary Lunetta (North Andover, MA) extended their individual hitting streaks by recording one base hit in the game. Oliveira and Torres both have four game streaks while Lunetta has had a hit in five straight.

Game Two: Univ. of Texas @ Brownsville 15, Fisher 0

Brownsville, TX - The University of Texas @ Brownsville wasted no time as they scored fast and furiously on their way to a 15-0 win over Fisher College in the nightcap of the double header. UTB jumped all over freshman Matthew Foster (Peterboro, NH) in the first inning as they sent nine men to the plate and scored five times. UTB would continue to score 10 more runs off of five Fisher Falcon relievers over the final three frames.

Freshman Sammy Alejandro (East Hartford, CT) lined a single into center field to break up the potential no hitter that UTB pitcher Chris Raley was working on. Raley only gave up two hits in his five innings of work. Senior Juan Eusebio (Union City, NJ) laced a 1-1 offering into right field in the fifth.

These two teams will face off once again tomorrow afternoon in game three of their four game series. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 pm (cst).
