Fisher Men wins fifth straight as they roll past UMPI, 106-77

Men's Basketball

Presque Isle, ME - The Fisher College Falcons continue to win as they beat the University of Maine-Presque Isle 106-77 in Sunrise Conference action.

Twelve of Sixteen Falcons who appeared in the game recorded points but it was senior Casey Pursell. The Seattle, Washington native had a game high 22 points. Classmate Christaan Hammond (Seattle, WA) added 21 points including connecting on five three pointers as the Falcons improve to 8-12 overall and 5-1 in Sunrise Conference play.

Fisher was able to jump out to a 49-35 halftime lead, thanks in large part to a team shooting percentage of 46.2 and going 7-for-12 from beyond the arc. The Falcons would then add another 57 points in the second half to eclipse the 100 point mark for the third time this season.

Senior Louis Williams (Burlington, VT) continues his march to becoming the first 2,000 point scorer in Fisher history. He scored 14 points in today's game leaving him only 189 points shy of 2,000.

The Falcons will return to action next Saturday, January 29th when they host the University of Maine-Augusta. In their previous match up back on November 1st, Fisher cruised to a 123-54 victory. Tip off is scheduled for 3 pm at the Fecteau-Leary Gymnasium.

Women's Basketball 

Presque Isle, ME - The Fisher College Lady Falcons dropped their second straight game as they lost to the University of Maine-Presque Isle Lady Owls, 70-31 in Sunrise Conference action this afternoon.

Freshman Javanna Bernard (Waterbury, CT) was the team leader in points as she scored 9 while junior Talia Hyatt (Dorchester, MA) continues to rebound efficiently. She collected 11 rebounds in the game giving her a total of 103 - tied for the team lead with senior Tiffany Beckman (East Hartford, CT).

The Lady Falcons (4-12/2-4) will look to right the ship when they take on the University of Maine-Augusta on Saturday, January 29th. In their previous meeting this season, the Lady Falcons earned the victory as the took home a 53-51 win at UMA. Game time is set for 1 pm.

Fort Kent, ME - In a battle for Sunrise Conference supremacy, the Fisher College Falcons traveled up to the University of Maine-Fort Kent with both teams tied atop the Conference with a 3-1 record.

Matching up for the first time since the 2010 Sunrise Conference Championship Game, where the Bengals won 81-63 - earning their first trip to the NAIA National Tournament, the Falcons had five players record double-digit games as they took home a tough fought road victory, 71-66.

Senior Casey Pursell (Seattle, WA) was the leading scorer for Fisher (7-12/4-1) as he pumped in 18 points. Junior Dennis Norford (New Haven, CT) added 16 points while seniors Louis Williams (Burlington, VT), Christaan Hammond (Seattle, WA) and Daniel Nance (Brooklyn, NY) contributed 12 points, 11 points and 10 points respectively.

As a team, the Falcons shot 56.3% from the field and took a 36-29 lead at the half. UMFK (12-7/3-2) would out score the Falcons in the second half 37-35 but it was not enough as turnovers proved to be costly. Fisher scored 21 points off of 21 UMFK turnovers where the Bengals managed just 8 points off of 18 Fisher miscues.

Fisher will now travel about an hour south from Fort Kent to Presque Isle, ME where they will tip off against the University of Maine-Presque Isle at 2 pm tomorrow (1/23) afternoon. The Owls are currently in sixth place in the Conference with a 1-3 SC record, 3-11 overall. Despite the record, UMPI is coming off a 90-73 win against SUNY-Canton.

Women's Basketball 

Fort Kent, ME - Three time defending Sunrise Conference Champions, the University of Maine at Fort Kent Lady Bengals were too much to handle for Fisher College as they beat the Lady Falcons, 66-21 in Sunrise Conference action.

Senior Tiffany Beckman (East Hartford, CT) recorded 9 points while the Lady Bengals were able to hold freshman sensation Javana Bernard (Waterbury, CT) to just 8 points. Also recording points for Fisher (4-11/2-3) were junior Talia Hyatt (Dorchester, MA) and freshman Kimberly Woolley (Rollinsford, NH), who scored 2 points each.

The Lady Bengals (6-10/4-1) were led by freshman Taylor Boucher (Fort Kent, ME) and Jenn Colpitts (Scarborough, ME) who scored 16 and 14 points respectively.

Next up for the Lady Falcons will be the University of Maine-Presque Isle. The Lady Owls are coming off a 64-58 loss to SUNY-Canton and sit in fourth place with a 5-9 overall record and a 3-1 mark in Sunrise Conference play.
