Fort Kent, ME - In a battle for Sunrise Conference supremacy, the Fisher College Falcons traveled up to the University of Maine-Fort Kent with both teams tied atop the Conference with a 3-1 record.
Matching up for the first time since the 2010 Sunrise Conference Championship Game, where the Bengals won 81-63 - earning their first trip to the NAIA National Tournament, the Falcons had five players record double-digit games as they took home a tough fought road victory, 71-66.
Senior Casey Pursell (Seattle, WA) was the leading scorer for Fisher (7-12/4-1) as he pumped in 18 points. Junior Dennis Norford (New Haven, CT) added 16 points while seniors Louis Williams (Burlington, VT), Christaan Hammond (Seattle, WA) and Daniel Nance (Brooklyn, NY) contributed 12 points, 11 points and 10 points respectively.
As a team, the Falcons shot 56.3% from the field and took a 36-29 lead at the half. UMFK (12-7/3-2) would out score the Falcons in the second half 37-35 but it was not enough as turnovers proved to be costly. Fisher scored 21 points off of 21 UMFK turnovers where the Bengals managed just 8 points off of 18 Fisher miscues.
Fisher will now travel about an hour south from Fort Kent to Presque Isle, ME where they will tip off against the University of Maine-Presque Isle at 2 pm tomorrow (1/23) afternoon. The Owls are currently in sixth place in the Conference with a 1-3 SC record, 3-11 overall. Despite the record, UMPI is coming off a 90-73 win against SUNY-Canton.
