Game One: Univ. of Texas @ Brownsville 8, Fisher 2
Brownsville, TX - Senior Rob Mondello (Haverhill, MA) pitched brilliantly through the first four innings as the University of Texas @ Brownsville could manage just one hit. In the fateful fifth inning, TX-Brownsville put up a quick seven spot as the went on to win by a final of 8-2.
Fisher took the lead in the 2nd inning when senior Zack Thompson (Salem, MA) drilled a 1-2 pitch over the right field wall for a two out, two run home run which plated freshman David Ferreira (Saugus, MA), who reached on a single to center. That would be all that Fisher could manage off of UTB starter Dan Gidora. Gidora pitched a complete game (7 innings) allowing just the two runs and striking out five Falcons.
As for Mondello, he went 4.0 + innings and was charged with four runs (three earned) on four hits while recording five strikeouts. A trio of Falcon relievers came in to finish the game, including freshman Jose Paulino (Lawrence, MA), who made his first collegiate appearance.
Senior Alfredo Torres (Lawrence, MA), junior Mike Oliveira (Tewksbury, MA) and sophomore Gary Lunetta (North Andover, MA) extended their individual hitting streaks by recording one base hit in the game. Oliveira and Torres both have four game streaks while Lunetta has had a hit in five straight.
Game Two: Univ. of Texas @ Brownsville 15, Fisher 0
Brownsville, TX - The University of Texas @ Brownsville wasted no time as they scored fast and furiously on their way to a 15-0 win over Fisher College in the nightcap of the double header. UTB jumped all over freshman Matthew Foster (Peterboro, NH) in the first inning as they sent nine men to the plate and scored five times. UTB would continue to score 10 more runs off of five Fisher Falcon relievers over the final three frames.
Freshman Sammy Alejandro (East Hartford, CT) lined a single into center field to break up the potential no hitter that UTB pitcher Chris Raley was working on. Raley only gave up two hits in his five innings of work. Senior Juan Eusebio (Union City, NJ) laced a 1-1 offering into right field in the fifth.
These two teams will face off once again tomorrow afternoon in game three of their four game series. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 pm (cst).

Softball
Final Score: Maine Maritime 6, Fisher 1
Orono, ME - With the score tied at 1, Maine Maritime scored five times in the bottom of the 6th and went one to defeat the Lady Falcons of Fisher College by a score of 6-1.
Fisher was the first to get on the board. Sophomore Brittany Calderon (Rockland, MA) led of the game with a double. She then came around and scored on senior Jackie Streeter's (Westminster, MA) base hit to give the Falcons the early 1-0 lead. However, Maine Maritime would answer in the home half of the first. After a lead off triple by Brittany Hunt, Megan Stanley singled her home to tie it all up at 1-1.
The game would remain tied until the sixth inning. Maine Maritime scored five runs off of freshman Mika Wilson (Chelsea, ME), highlighted by a three run home run by Casey McCloskey. Wilson pitched brilliantly until the sixth as her final line read: 6.0 innings pitched, six runs (five earned), nine hits, one walk and five strikeouts.
Offensively for Fisher College, Calderon, Streeter, freshman Jamie Hallam (Barrington, RI) and junior Jessica Augusta (Methuen, MA) were all 1-3, respectively. Junior Michelle Oliverio (Everett, MA) was 1-2 to account for all of the Lady Falcon's hits.
The loss now drops the Lady Falcons to 0-7 on the young 2010 season. Next up, the Softball team will travel to Cocoa Beach, Florida for 10 games.
