Hashem K's 12 in win |
Fisher got on the board first as they were able to push a run across in the second inning. Sophomore Sammy Alejandro (East Hartford, CT) hit a RBI ground out to the second baseman which allowed senior Jose Rodriguez (Clermont, FL) to score. Rodriguez began the inning with a walk.
In the explosive third inning, the Falcons sent a total of 11 batters to the plate. Junior Gary Lunetta (North Andover, MA) began the frame as he worked a lead-off walk. Sophomore Jose Paulino (Lawrence, MA) and Freshman Davidson Peguero (Boston, MA) then reached on back-to-back base hits, Peguero's single brought home Lunetta. After senior Reynaldo Nunez (Santiago, Dominican Republic) was hit by the pitch, Rodriguez scorched a two RBI double to the left center gap. Freshman Victor Lebron (Union City, NJ) then singled home both Nunez and Rodriguez to give Fisher a 6-0 lead. The Falcons were not done scoring yet as Alejandro added another RBI with a base hit to left and Lunetta added a RBI double down the right field line.
That would be all the run support that junior Mike Hashem (North Andover, MA) would need. The left-hander struck-out a season high 12 batters over his seven innings of work. He allowed Gordon College to score just three runs, all unearned, on four hits while hitting two batters and not issuing a single walk.
Freshman Andrew Hurd (Barnstable, MA) allowed a lead-off walk to score in the eighth before Pegeuro took the mound and ran into trouble in the ninth. Peguero faced six batters in his 1/3 of an inning. He allowed the Fighting Scots to score an unearned run on three walks and an error by the Falcon defense. Freshman Moises Melo-Reyes (Methuen, MA) relieved Peguero and after another Fisher defensive miscue that allowed Gordon to score three runs, he was able to get the final two outs to earn his first collegiate save.
Peguero finshed the day with three hits (3-for-5), two runs scored and knocked in a run. Rodriguez, Lebron and Alejandro finished the game with two RBI each. Lebron, Lunetta and Peguero were the only Falcons with a multi-hit game.
Fisher Baseball will return to action tomorrow evening as they host Sunrise Conference opponent, Vermont Technical College. The double-header begins at 5 pm inside the beautiful Fraser Field located in Lynn, Massachusetts.
