Baseball takes two from SUNY

Canton, NY - The Fisher College Baseball team was able to beat Sunrise Conference rival SUNY Canton twice today by final scores of 7-0 and 6-1.


Game One: Fisher College 7, SUNY Canton 0

Sophomore Mike Callahan (Chepachet, RI) earned his first win of 2011 in remarkable style. Callahan pitched six innings of no hit baseball. He walked just two batters while striking out five.

On the offensive side of the ball, Fisher was led by senior Reynaldo Nunez (Santiago, Dominican Republic) and freshman Davidson Peguero (Boston, MA). Both were 3-for-5 with a run scored but Nunez edged Peguero with 3 RBI (Peguero had 2). Senior Jose Rodriguez (Clermont, FL) continues to pace the team in hitting as he added a 2-for-4 performance while senior Mike Oliveira (Tewksbury, MA), junior Gary Lunetta (North Andover, MA) and freshman Victor Lebron (Union City, NJ) contributed with a hit a piece.

The team no hit bid was broken up in the seventh inning off of senior Mark Dorso (Waterbury, CT). Dorso finished the inning allowing just the one hit, walking one and striking out one. Freshmen Moises Melo-Reyes (Methuen, MA) and Tyler Baker (Haverhill, MA) pitched the 8th and 9th innings, respectively, helping the Fisher pitching staff to their first shutout of the season.


Game Two: Fisher College 6, SUNY Canton 1

Junior Kenny Kahle (Crystal Lake, IL) went a perfect 4-for-4 as the Fisher Falcons take game two by a 6-1 final.

Junior Austin Brodie (Haverhill, MA) pitched a marvelous five innings in his first collegiate start. He allowed SUNY to score just one run on five hits while striking out three and issuing two walks. Sophomore Casey Reed (Ossippie, NH) and freshman Andrew Hurd (Barnstable, MA) each pitched a scoreless inning a piece in the win.

The other outstanding offensive production came from freshman Davidson Peguero (Boston, MA) and sophomore Jose Paulino (Lawrence, MA). Peguero, who has been on fire all week - 11-for-20 over his past six games, went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI. Paulino was a solid 2-for-4 with a RBI while adding a terrific defensive play as he threw out a runner at the plate from center field. Freshman Brett Remon (Salem, MA) had a RBI double as he was 1-for-3 on the day.

Also adding a tremendous performance was freshman Billy Lafferty (Haverhill, MA). Lafferty was able to record his first collegiate hit, a double to left, in his 2-for-4 day at the plate. He was also able to score two runs in the win.

Fisher Baseball, now 6-20 on the season and 3-1 in Sunrise Conference action, will return to action this Tuesday afternoon as they travel to Fitchburg, MA to take on the Falcons of Fitchburg State College.
