Baseball sweeps, Softball splits with UMPI

Lynn, MA - The Fisher College Baseball team remains unbeaten in Sunrise Conference action as they beat the visiting University of Maine at Presque Isle twice. Softball dropped game one versus UMPI, 9-3, before an offensive explosion in game two sealed the win, 20-4.

Game One: Fisher College 11, University of Maine-Presque Isle 1


Casey Reed fired 6.0 innings in Game One today

Lynn, MA - Freshman Casey Reed (Ossipee, NH) continues to shine as he held the UMPI offense to just one unearned run on five hits as Fisher College won 11-1. He pitched 6.0 innings, allowing an unearned run on five hits while striking out just two.

Reed, now 3-1 on the season, has won all three of his starts this season. His 17 inning scoreless streak was snapped in the sixth when UMPI scored on an error by the Fisher shortstop. Reed has also lowered his ERA from 3.57 to 2.66 in his first collegiate season.

The boys from Union City, NJ proved much of the Fisher offense as seniors Edwin Pena and Juan Eusebio combined to go 5-for-9 with four RBIs (Pena was 3-for-4 with 2 RBI and Eusebio went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI). Juniors Reynaldo Nunez (Santiago, Dominican Republic) and Jose Rodriguez (Clermont, FL) added a RBI hits for the Falcons in game one.

Game Two: Fisher College 8, University of Maine-Presque Isle 2

Lynn, MA - Senior Patrick Shanahan (Haverhill, MA) struck out eight batters as the Falcons took game two of the double-header from UMPI, 8-2.

Shanahan, who topped out at 90 MPH today, pitched 5.0 innings and allowed UMPI to scored just two runs (one unearned) on five hits. Both senior Sammy Luciano (Union City, NJ) and freshman Matt Foster (Peterborough, NH) pitched a scoreless inning in relief of Shanahan.

Senior Edwin Pena (Union City, NJ) remains "en fuego" as he was 3-for-3 in game two with three RBI's. Pena was not the only Falcon to be perfect at the plate in game two as freshman Sebastiano Petruzzelli (Saugus, MA) was 2-for-2 with two RBI's.

Fisher will return to action tomorrow when they take on the University of Maine-Presque Isle in a 12pm double-header. The game will be played at Fraser Field in Lynn, MA.

Softball

Game One: University of Maine-Presque Isle 9, Fisher College 3

Lynn, MA - The visiting Lady Owls stole game one from Fisher as they scored six runs in the fourth inning on their way to a 9-3 win.

For the Lady Falcons, junior Michelle Oliveiro (Everett, MA) went 2-for-3 with a run scored and senior Jackie Streeter (Westminster, MA) collected a couple hits as she was 2-for-3 in the game one loss.

Sophomore Brittany Calderon (Rockland, MA) pitched 7.0 innings, giving up nine runs (four earned) on ten hits while striking out three.

Game Two: Fisher College 20, University of Maine-Presque Isle 4

Lynn, MA - Eight different Lady Falcons recorded hits in the 20 run explosion in game two as they won easily, 20-4 over UMPI.

Junior Amanda Davis (Dos Palos, CA) went 3-for-3 at the dish with three RBI's. Along with Davis, both freshman Mika Wilson (Chelsea, ME) and junior Jessica Augusta (Lawrence, MA) had three RBI's in the game. Wilson was 1-for-2 with a run scored and Augusta went 1-for-1 with four walks and two runs scored. Senior Jackie Streeter (Westminster, MA) had a solid 2-for-3 showing in the game as did sophomore Debbie Fuller (Hampton, NH). Fuller knocked in a run while scoring three and going 2-for-3. Sophomore Courtney Gollotto (Johnston, RI) was also 2-for-4 to account for the Lady Falcon offense.

On the mound, Wilson pitched 5.0 innings for the win. She allowed UMPI just four runs (three earned) on five hits while striking out six.

These two schools will play another double-header tomorrow at Breed Field in Lynn, MA. Game One is set for 12pm.

  1. I am casey Reeds Grand father , I would like to know why the pitching coach had casey only throw fast ball for 6 innings when he can throw a slider and a curve ball along with a change up.
