Brodie pitches Fisher to win!

(Lynn, MA) - Behind a strong pitching performance from junior Austin Brodie (Haverhill, MA) the Fisher College Falcons upended the visiting Framingham State University Rams tonight, 9-5.

The right-hander tossed six solid innings allowing Framingham State (12-10) to score four runs, one earned, on nine hits while striking out three and walking just one. He earned his third win in as many starts on the season while bringing his ERA down to just a minuscule 1.82.

The Falcon offense erupted for five runs in the bottom of the second. With one out and runners on first and second, freshman Victor Lebron (Union City, NJ) laced an RBI double into the left center gap. Sophomore Sammy Alejandro (East Hartford, CT) then belted a triple down the right field line which plated both sophomore Sebastiano Petruzzelli (Saugus, MA), who singled earlier in the inning, and Lebron to give Fisher a 3-1. The Falcons weren't done as senior Mike Oliveira (Tewksbury, MA) singled home Alejandro and came around to score on a throwing error by the FSU shortstop.

Fisher would add two more runs in the third inning, courtesy of RBI singles from Oliveira and junior Gary Lunetta (North Andover, MA).

Framingham State would make things interesting as they plated three runs in the fourth inning. Trailing 7-1, Danny Chaisson and Joe Sheehan both singled through the right side before freshman Tony Iafolla laced a RBI single. FSU would score the next two runs on an error by Fisher's shortstop and a RBI single by senior Chris Blydell.

Fisher (13-22) would tack on solo runs in the fourth and eighth before allowing a run in the ninth to close out the game.

A trio of freshman relievers pitched the seventh, eighth and ninth for Fisher College to secure the victory. Moises Melo-Reyes (Methuen, MA) allowed just one hit in his inning of work while Davidson Peguero (Boston, MA) struck out two in a perfect 1-2-3 inning. Andrew Hurd (Barnstable, MA) gave up a run in the ninth but was able to get out of a bases loaded jam as Fisher took home the win.

Oliveira was the player of the game as he finished the evening going 4-for-4 with 2 RBI and played a terrific defensive second base. Petruzzelli has remained an on base machine as he was 3-for-4 while Alejandro went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI. Senior Jose Rodriguez (Clermont, FL), the team's leading hitter, added a 2-for-4 performance as he raised his average to a robust .355.

Framingham State saw multi-hit games from Will Crofton, 3-for-5, and Sheehan , 2-for-4. Iafolla, Blydell and Danny Tomasz, along with Sheehan combined for all of the RBIs. 

Fisher will enjoy a day off tomorrow as they prepare for a four game series with Briarcliffe College. Saturday's double-header will begin at approx. 3pm inside the beautiful Fraser Field in Lynn, Massachusetts.

Falcons soar in comeback win over Framingham State

(Lynn, MA) The Fisher College Falcons scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning as they go on to beat Framingham State, 5-1 in non-conference action.

The game was a solid pitcher’s duel as the starting pitchers matched each other pitch for pitch. Fisher College starter Kevin Michael limited the potent Framingham State offense in check as he allowed only two hits through the first six innings. The senior from Ipswich, MA retired 12 straight batters at one point and faced just the minimum (18) as the sixth inning came to a close.

Framingham State starter Matthew Magazine was just as lights out. The senior from Marlborough, MA gave up just three hits over his first seven innings of work.

Framingham State (12-10) was able to break the scoreless tie in the seventh. Chris Blydell (Jr./Lynn, MA) began the inning with a walk and was sacrificed perfectly over to second by freshman Matt Roberge (Lowell, MA). With one out and the bases loaded, Blydell was able to score the games first run due to a passed ball.  Michael was able to escape without former damage as he retired the next two batters to end the inning.

Trailing by one entering the home half of the eighth, Fisher would mount a tremendous come back. Senior Mike Oliveira (Tewksbury, MA) reached base on an error by FSU’s shortstop. He was then sacrificed over to second by junior Gary Lunetta (North Andover, MA).

That set the stage for sophomore shortstop Jose Paulino. The Lawrence, MA native promptly laced a ball through the left side and the throw home was late as Oliveira came around to tie the game.  After an intentional walk to freshman Davidson Peguero (Boston, MA), senior Reynaldo Nunez (Santiago, Dominican Republic) lined an RBI single into the gap that plated Paulino. Peguero was able to score on the throw to second as Nunez was able to stretch and get into scoring position. The Falcons were able to tack on two more runs to give them a 5-1 lead.

Junior Mike Hashem (North Andover, MA) came on in relief and retired the side 1-2-3 after allowing a leadoff double by Blydell.

Michael earns his third victory of 2011 as he pitched eight innings allowing just one unearned run on five hits while striking out five and issuing just one walk.

Fisher will return to action this weekend as they host Briarcliffe College in a four game series at Fraser Field in Lynn, MA. Framingham State will be on the road tomorrow with a 7pm game at Suffolk University.

Baseball earns a split with Briarcliffe College

Game One: Fisher College 9, Briarcliffe College 1

Every Fisher College batter recorded a hit as they took game one of the double-header against Briarcliffe College by a 9-1 final.

The Falcon offense came alive in the third and fifth innings. They were able to plate three runners in the third thanks to a RBI single from Gary Lunetta (North Andover, MA) and a 2 RBI single from Sunrise Conference Baseball Player of the Week, Davidson Peguero (Boston, MA).

Fisher (7-21) plated four more runs in the fifth inning, including a 2 RBI double from freshman Victor Lebron (Union City, NJ). Sophomore Sammy Alejandro (East Hartford, CT) laced a two out base hit up the middle to plate the other two runs in the inning.

Senior Mike Oliveira (Tewksbury, MA) was able to come across on a passed ball while classmate Reynaldo Nunez (Santiago, Dominican Republic) scored Lunetta with a Sacrifice Fly, all in the sixth to give Fisher a 9-1 lead.

An eight run lead is all that junior Mike Hashem (North Andover, MA) would need as the power lefty earned his first win of the season. He tossed a complete game allowing Briarcliffe to score just one run on two hits while walking four and striking out five.

Hashem, now 1-2 in 2011, lowered his ERA from 4.05 to 3.57 as he allowed just one earned run in seven innings.

Both Lunetta and Nunez finished the game going 2-for-3 a piece while Peguero, Lebron and Alejandro each knocked in a pair of runs.

Game Two: Briarcliffe College 1, Fisher College 0

In what was a pitcher's duel, the Fisher College Falcons came up on the short end as they lost game two of the double-header, 1-0.

Senior Kevin Micheal (Ipswich, MA) pitched a complete game (6 IP) allowing Briarcliffe to score just one run on three hits while striking out six and issuing just one walk.

Fisher was able to muster just four hits off of Braircliffe starter Rick Dohit. Sophomore Steven Clark (Haverhill, MA) went 2-for-3 while freshman Brett Remon (Salem, MA) and junior Gary Lunetta (North Andover, MA) each had a hit.

Fisher (7-21/3-1) will return to action this weekend as they host Sunrise Conference opponent the University of Maine-Presque Isle. Saturday's games will begin at 3pm inside of the beautiful Fraser Field in Lynn, MA.
