Both Fisher Collge Basketball teams in action today

Women's Basketball

Lynn, MA - In the inaugural game played at the Fecteau-Leary Gymnasium, the new home of the Fisher College Falcons, it was the visiting Daniel Webster College Eagles who took the win as the beat Fisher 73-47.

For the first five minutes, the Falcons (1-4) and Eagles (2-2) traded baskets and was tied at 9. That is when DWC went on an 18-3 run over the next 10 minutes and take a 17 point lead into half.

Head Coach Sabra Wrice made some quick half time adjustments as the team played well in the second half.

Freshman Javanna Bernard (Waterbury, CT) led the Falcon offense with 17 points and 2 assists over her 32+ minutes of play. Fellow freshman Kimberly Woolley (Rollinsford, NH) chipped in 10 points while senior Tiffany Beckman (East Hartford, CT) continues to add to her 1,000 point total with 11 points in the game.

The Lady Falcons will return to action next Saturday, December 11 when they host Johnson and Wales University (FL) in the second game of the Holiday Hoops Classic presented by Fisher College. Game time is set for 11 am at the Fecteau-Leary Gymnasium in Lynn, Massachusetts.

Men's Basketball

Mount Vernon, OH - In a back and forth battle, Goshen College came out on top as they defeated Fisher College, 86-75 in the A+ Auto-brokers Holiday Invitational hosted by Mount Vernon Nazarene University.

Goshen's biggest lead was eight points with about a minute left to play in the first half. The Falcons (2-8) were able to cut the deficit to just two when the horn sounded due to two three pointers from freshman Elijah Chisholm (East Boston, MA) and senior Louis Williams (Burlington, VT). Williams led the Falcons with 12 points in the first half as the score was 39-37.

In the second half, Goshen was able to used a 12-2 run from the 8 minute mark until the 3:30 mark to seal the victory. Fisher College junior Dennis Norford (New Haven, CT) played an incredible half of basketball as he was able to score 18 of his game high 27 points. He also collected 8 rebounds to push his game total to 11, which gave him his fifth double-double of the season and second consecutive.

Williams finished the day with 14 points. Seniors Casey Pursell (Seattle, WA) and Oscar Brown (Buffalo, NY) also chipped in with a double digit scoring performance with 12 and 11 points respectively.

After a tough 10 game road schedule to begin the season, which saw the team travel to Washington and Ohio, the Men will return home and play against The New School (NY) on Friday night (12/10). Game time is set for 7pm as it will begin the 2010 Holiday Hoops Classic presented by Fisher College.

Mount Vernon comes from behind to beat Fisher Men

Mount Vernon, OH - The Mount Vernon Nazerene University Cougars used a 46 point outburst in the second half to beat the Fisher College Falcons tonight, 78-63 in the first round of the A+ Auto-brokers Holiday Invitational.

The Falcons (2-7) jumped out to a quick lead at the half. Senior Louis Williams (Burlington, VT) and junior Dennis Norford (New Haven, CT) combined for 21 points of Fisher's 43 points as they took a 43-32 lead into the locker rooms.

When the second half began, so did the Cougars. They were able to limit the Falcons to just 20 points (Williams and Norford combined for 11 points) while finding their shot. The Cougars were 14-32, a 53.3%, from the floor where as Fisher shot at just a 22.6% in the second half.

Both Williams and Norford played all 40 minutes with Norford recording his fourth double-double of the season (13 points, 12 rebounds).  Senior Oscar Brown (Buffalo, NY) played well off the bench as he scored 12 points in his 24 minutes of action.

With the loss, Mount Vernon advances to the Championship game against Trevecca Nazarene. The Fisher College Falcons will play Goshen College (IN) in the consolation game slated for a 1 pm tip off. Goshen lost to Trevecca 87-70 in the other semi-final match-up.

Lady Falcons fall at MIT, 64-32

Cambridge, MA – The MIT Engineers were just too much for the Lady Falcons, as they scored 34 points in the second half to record the 64-32 win today at Rockwell Cage in Cambridge, MA.

The Lady Falcons were in the game until about the 9 minute mark of the first half. Trailing the Engineers 13-10, MIT went on a 17-2 run to close the half. Freshman Javanna Bernard (Waterbury, CT) was the team’s leading scorer in the first half with 5 points, 2-10 from the field, while Beckman chipped in 4 points. Junior Talia Hyatt (Dorchester, MA), playing well in front of about 15 members of her family, collected a team high five rebounds, three of which were offensive. Junior Leslie Wadhams (Burlington, VT) and freshman Kristina Terry (Haverhill, MA) have scored 2 points and 1 point respectively to account for the 12 first half points.

The Lady Falcons were able to score 20 points in the second half in large part to Beckman, who scored six of her team high 10 points in the second half. She now has a total of 1,060 points in her career here at Fisher College.

Bernard finished the game with seven points and Wadhams had eight points and eight rebounds in the loss.

Fisher, now 1-3 on the season, will return to action next Saturday afternoon as they host Daniel Webster College. It will be the first home game at the Fecteau-Leary Gymnasium for any Fisher College Basketball team. Game time is set for 12pm and directions to the Gymnasium can be found online at www.fisher.edu.
