Game Two: Framingham State College 10, Fisher College 9
After senior Rob Mondello (Haverhill, MA) allowed eight runs in 2.1 innings pitched, the Fisher offense mounted a comeback which fell just short as they lost game two, 10-9.
Senior Zack Thompson (Salem, MA) took over for Mondello and pitched a gem in relief. He tossed 4.2 innings, limiting the Framingham State (12-11) offense to just two runs on two hits while striking out a season high nine batters.
At the dish, senior Edwin Pena (Union City, NJ) proved why he is one of the best catchers in the area. He went 4-for-5 in game two including a solo home run and a clutch two-run double in the sixth. Pena also threw out a Framingham State base runner in the first by about 15 feet.
Also providing much of the offense were junior Jose Rodriguez (Clermont, FL) who belted two doubles as he went 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Sophomore Gary Lunetta (North Andover, MA) had himself a 3-for-5 game and junior Mike Oliveira (Tewksbury, MA) also contributed with a 2-for-4 game with two runs scored.
Fisher had the opportunity to tie the game in the seventh. Rodriguez reached base on a walk and advanced to second on Pena's base hit. With two outs, junior Reynaldo Nunez (Santiago, Dominican Republic) grounded out to the short stop to end the game.
Fisher Baseball, now 16-16 on the season, will have three days to forget about the tough loss as their next game will be on Saturday, April 17, 2010 when they host Briarcliffe College. The non-conference double header will take place at Fraser Field in Lynn, Massachusetts. Game time is scheduled for 2 pm.
