Softball stumbles on the road at Maine Maritime

Amanda Davis was 4-6 with a 3 run HR in two games today

The Fisher College Softball team lost both games of the double header today to Maine Maritime Academy by scores of 8-6 and 7-0.

Game One: Maine Maritime 8, Fisher 6

Down 8-1 heading into the top of the 7th inning, Fisher scored five times but that was not enough as Maine Maritime held on to win, 8-6. Junior Amanda Davis (Dos Palos, CA) went 3-4 at the plate, including a three run home run. Sophomore Brittany Calderon (Rockland, MA) was also 3-4 at the dish. Senior Jackie Streeter (Westminster, MA) added a RBI hit as part of her 2-4 game along with freshman Jamie Hallam (Barrington, RI), who went 2-4 with a RBI. Both junior Jessica Augusta (Methuen, MA) and sophomore Courtney Gollotto (Johnston, RI) added base hits to complete the 12 hit Fisher attack.

Calderon received the loss on the mound as she pitched 4.0 innings allowing six runs (five earned) on 10 hits and striking out just one hitter. Hallam came on in relief and hurled 2.0 innings, striking out 3 hitters and giving up 2 runs (one earned).

Game Two: Maine Maritime 7, Fisher 0

Only four Lady Falcons managed to get hits off of Maine Maritime pitcher Casey McCloskey as Maine Maritime won 7-0. Both Calderon and Davis were 1-2 in the game while Hallam and Streeter went 1-4, respectively. Maine native Mika Wilson (Chelsea, ME) pitched 5.0 innings for the Lady Falcons. She allowed seven runs (six earned) on seven hits and struck out four Maine Maritime batters. Junior Libby Whitcomb (Wilmington, VT) threw an inning of hitless relief in her first collegiate pitching appearence.

The Lady Falcons will finish up the three game set against Maine Maritime tomorrow before heading to Florida for their annual spring trip at Cocoa Beach Expo. With the two losses the Softball team falls to 0-6 on the young 2010 season.
