Softball

Lynn, MA - Freshman Mika Wilson's (Chelsea, ME) walk off grand slam was the highlight of the day as the Fisher College Softball team beat the visiting SUNY-Canton Lady Kangaroos twice by scores of 10-2 and 12-9.

Game One: Fisher College 10, SUNY-Canton 2

Brittany Calderon limited SUNY to just 2 runs in game one

The Lady Falcon offense exploded for 10 runs on 14 hits as they rolled to their fifth win, winning 10-2 in a mercy rule-shortened game.

Sophomore Brittany Calderon (Rockland, MA) was the starting pitcher and earned her second win of 2010 as she tossed six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on eight hits while striking out one SUNY-Canton hitter. Although she did great on the mound, she did even better at the plate. Calderon went 3-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored.

Also putting on a offensive display was junior Amanda Davis (Dos Palos, CA). Davis knocked in three runs on her 2-for-3 performance at the plate. Both juniors Michelle Oliveiro (Everett, MA) and Jessica Augusta (Lawrence, MA) had a multi-hit game. Augusta was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Oliveiro went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Game Two: Fisher College 12, SUNY-Canton 9

Mika Wilson connected for a walk-off granny in game two

The "pitchers with power" theme continued into game two for the Lady Falcons. Freshman Mika Wilson (Chelsea, ME) "powered" her team to victory, both on the mound and at the plate.

The Lady Falcons scored seven runs in the first two innings. SUNY-Canton would battle back as they two runs in the fifth, four in the sixth and the game-tying run in the seventh to force extra frames. SUNY-Canton would strike first as they quicky scored two runs to take a 9-7 lead into the bottom of the eighth. Fisher would mount a quick comeback. With the bases loaded, and a run already across to make 9-8, Wilson stepped up to the plate. What she did next was only something you can dream off. She promptly hit a deep fly ball that fell over the fence for a walk-off, come from behind grand slam to give the Lady Falcons their first double-header sweep of the season.

Wilson finished 2-for-4 at the plate with five RBI's. On the mound, she earned her fourth win of the season. Wilson pitched all eight innings, allowing nine runs (four earned) on eleven hits and striking out five.

Wlison was not the only one to shine at the dish for the Lady Falcons. Junior Amanda Davis (Dos Palos, CA) collected three RBI's as she went 3-for-4 with three runs scored in game two. Classmate Michelle Oliveiro (Everett, MA) scored two runs in her 2-for-4 day at the plate.

Game Notes: Senior Jackie Streeter (Westminster, MA) was 0-0 in game two with a RBI. SUNY-Canton intentionally walked her five times, including once with the bases loaded.

The Lady Falcons will return to the diamond this Tuesday when they take on Fitchburg State College. Game One is set for 2pm on the campus of Fitchburg State.
