Fisher Women lose big to Mansfield University

Roxbury, MA
- Senior Kianesha Dennis (Lynn, MA) and junior Tiffany Beckman (East Hartford, CT) each scored 11 points but that wasn't enough as the visiting Mansfield University won easily, 94-33. For the Lady Mountaineers, Mallory Hafer scored 25 points while Mallory Moore, Sydnee Reeves and Nicole Pender chipped in with double digit points. Senior Jackie Streeter (Westminster, MA) collected 9 rebounds to lead the team tonight.

The women will return to the hardwood tomorrow afternoon when they take on Houghton College in a 1pm contest. Houghton is coming off a very impressive 75-51 win over fellow Sunrise Conference opponent University of Maine at Fort Kent.

Fisher Men come up short and lose to Trinity College, 79-75

Bristol, RI - A game tying jumper with less than 5 seconds didn't make it and the Fisher Men suffered their first lost of the 2009-2010 season. Junior Louis Williams (Burlington, VT) scored 18 points while fellow classmate Casey Pursell (Seattle, WA) added 14 points. Senior Ryan Henry (Westwood, NJ) and junior Daniel Nance (Brooklyn, NY) also chipped in with 10 points apiece.

Fisher started out hot, shooting 55.9% from the floor en route to a 43-37 halftime lead. Williams lit up the court as he scored 14 of his 18 in the first half (6-10, 2 3pointers). When the second half began, Trinity College caught fire and shot 53.3% and a back and fourth game ensued. The score was tied at 75 with less than a minute to play. Trinity's John Pike drilled a short jumper, which eventually became the game winner. Fisher still had another shot to tie the game. With three seconds left on the clock, junior Christaan Hammond (Seattle, WA) drove down the lane and floated the ball towards the net. The ball hit the rim and fell to floor, where Trinity's Brian Ford collected the rebound and was fouled with a second remaining. He would sink his two free throws and Trinity College survived and advances to the Championship Game against host Roger Williams University.

The Fisher men will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as they have a 1pm tip off with Lesley University in the 2009 Courtyard by Marriott Tip Off at Roger Williams University consolation game. Lesley lost to Roger Williams in the first game, 79-72.
