Fisher shows dominace in win over Vermont Tech

Lynn, MA – The Fisher College Falcons proved to the rest of the Sunrise Conference why they are the five time defending champions as they beat up on Vermont Tech, 14-2 in the opening game of the 2010 Sunrise Conference Tournament.

Fisher College senior catcher Edwin Pena (Union City, NJ) was just a home run shy of the cycle as he went 4-for-5 with 4 RBIs to pace the Falcon offense. Classmate Juan Eusebio (Union City, NJ) chipped in with his own 3-for-4 effort while freshman Dave Ferreira (Saugus, MA) collected three hits (3-for-5) and connecting on a two-run Home Run to right.

Senior Patrick Shanahan (Haverhill, MA) pitched six solid innings for Fisher as he limited the Green Knights to just two runs on six hits. His eleven strike outs, Shanahan surpasses Fisher College Hall of Famer Patrick Holland ’07 (North Andover, MA) for most career strike outs. Shanahan now has 195 strike outs through out his four year career. Freshman Mike Callahan (Chepachet, RI) pitched a scoreless seventh to secure the victory.

For Vermont Technical College, freshman Reed Brown (Waitsfield, VT) had a day as he went 3-for-4. Both senior Jeff Savage (Vernon, VT) and freshman Kyle FiField (Lisbon, NH) collected RBIs for the Green Knights.

Fisher will move on to face the University of Maine-Presque Isle game at 3:30 pm tomorrow afternoon. Vermont Tech will play in an elimination game against the State University of New York at Canton, starting at 12 pm. All games are played at Fraser Field in Lynn, Massachusetts.
