Hashem's 12 strikeouts lead Fisher to victory

Hashem K's 12 in win
The Fisher College Baseball Falcons used a seven run fourth inning and escaped a late four run rally as they beat Gordon College today by a final score of 9-8.

Fisher got on the board first as they were able to push a run across in the second inning. Sophomore Sammy Alejandro (East Hartford, CT) hit a RBI ground out to the second baseman which allowed senior Jose Rodriguez (Clermont, FL) to score. Rodriguez began the inning with a walk.

In the explosive third inning, the Falcons sent a total of 11 batters to the plate. Junior Gary Lunetta (North Andover, MA) began the frame as he worked a lead-off walk. Sophomore Jose Paulino (Lawrence, MA) and Freshman Davidson Peguero (Boston, MA) then reached on back-to-back base hits, Peguero's single brought home Lunetta. After senior Reynaldo Nunez (Santiago, Dominican Republic) was hit by the pitch, Rodriguez scorched a two RBI double to the left center gap. Freshman Victor Lebron (Union City, NJ) then singled home both Nunez and Rodriguez to give Fisher a 6-0 lead. The Falcons were not done scoring yet as Alejandro added another RBI with a base hit to left and Lunetta added a RBI double down the right field line.

That would be all the run support that junior Mike Hashem (North Andover, MA) would need. The left-hander struck-out a season high 12 batters over his seven innings of work. He allowed Gordon College to score just three runs, all unearned, on four hits while hitting two batters and not issuing a single walk.

Freshman Andrew Hurd (Barnstable, MA) allowed a lead-off walk to score in the eighth before Pegeuro took the mound and ran into trouble in the ninth. Peguero faced six batters in his 1/3 of an inning. He allowed the Fighting Scots to score an unearned run on three walks and an error by the Falcon defense. Freshman Moises Melo-Reyes (Methuen, MA) relieved Peguero and after another Fisher defensive miscue that allowed Gordon to score three runs, he was able to get the final two outs to earn his first collegiate save.

Peguero finshed the day with three hits (3-for-5), two runs scored and knocked in a run. Rodriguez, Lebron and Alejandro finished the game with two RBI each. Lebron, Lunetta and Peguero were the only Falcons with a multi-hit game.

Fisher Baseball will return to action tomorrow evening as they host Sunrise Conference opponent, Vermont Technical College. The double-header begins at 5 pm inside the beautiful Fraser Field located in Lynn, Massachusetts.

Game Two – Fisher College 5, Briarcliffe College 2

Orsini’s bases clearing double carries Fisher to second win of the day

Sophomore Alex Orsini
With the bases loaded and two away, sophomore Alex Orsini (Loudon, NH) cleared them with one swing of the bat. Orsini drilled a 3-2 pitch deep line drive over the left fielder’s head to give Fisher a 5-0 lead and helped complete the double-header sweep of Briarcliffe College.

Sophomore Michael Callahan (Chepachet, RI) held Briarcliffe scoreless until the seventh inning.  Freshman Andrew Hurd (Barnstable, MA) came in with two outs and runners on first and second and got the only batter he faced to groundout to second to record his first collegiate save.

Callahan finished the game with 6.2 innings pitched allowing two runs on 9 hits while striking out five as he even his 2011 record at 3-3.

Senior Reynaldo Nunez (Santiago, Dominican Republic) had a solid day at the plate as he went 2-for-3 with a RBI. Other Falcons recording base hits were senior Jose Rodriguez (Clermont, FL), sophomore Gary Lunetta (North Andover, MA) and freshman Victor Lebron (Union City, NJ).

Fisher, now with a 15-22 overall record, will look to take all four games as they play Briarcliffe College again tomorrow. First game of the double-header is scheduled for 12:05pm.

Game Three – Briarcliffe College 7, Fisher College 1

Four Fisher errors cost them their first home loss at Fraser

Senior Jose Rodriguez
After working all morning long to get the field in playing condition, the Fisher Falcon defense came out flat as Braircliffe College became the first team to beat the Falcons at Fraser Field.

Sophomore Casey Reed (Ossipee, NH) was the tough luck loser as he allowed just one earned run (four total runs) over his five innings of work. Freshman Victor Lebron (Union City, NJ) gave up three runs, two earned, in his inning of work while classmate Izzy Velez (Avon, MA) pitched a perfect  seventh inning.

Senior Jose Rodriguez (Clermont, FL) and sophomore Sebastiano Petruzzelli (Saugus, MA) continue to swing the bats well as they each went 2-for-3. Junior Mike Flynn (South Pasadena, CA) received the only Fisher RBI as he lifted a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

Fisher now drops to 15-23 overall on the season. This was the first loss that Fisher has received at Fraser Field since the team moved in to the historic ballpark in 2009.

Game Four – Fisher College 3, Briarcliffe College 2

Petruzzelli’s RBI single lifts Fisher past Braircliffe, 3-2

Sebastiano Petruzzelli
Sophomore Sebastiano Petruzzelli (Saugus, MA) singled home senior Reynaldo Nunez (Santiago, Dominican Republic) in the fourth inning for Fisher’s third run as the Falcons took game two, 3-2 from Braircliffe College.

Briarcliffe would make the game interesting as they were able to score a run off of Fisher College starter Aaron McGinness (Phillips, ME) in the sixth inning. Reliever Raidel Vela (So./Tampa, FL) was able to end the inning due to Runner’s Interference. A line drive hit the base runner running from first to second which resulted in an automatic out.

Senior Kevin Michael (Ipswich, MA) came on to pitch the seventh. Normally a starting pitcher, Michael earned his first save of the season as he allowed just one unearned run while striking out two.

Freshman Davidson Peguero (Boston, MA) was the only Falcon to record multiple hits as he went 2-for-3 in the game with a RBI. He knocked in the game’s first run with a double down the right field line in the first that scored junior Gary Lunetta (North Andover, MA). Lunetta went 1-for-3 at the plate as well as Nunez, Petruzzelli and freshman Victor Lebron (Union City, NJ).

Fisher, now 16-23 on the season, will enjoy a day off tomorrow (Mon. 4/18) before they host Fitchburg State University on Tuesday night. Earlier this season Fitchburg State was able to outslug Fisher in a 15-11 game back on April 6th.

Brodie pitches Fisher to win!

Austin Brodie
(Lynn, MA) - Behind a strong pitching performance from junior Austin Brodie (Haverhill, MA) the Fisher College Falcons upended the visiting Framingham State University Rams tonight, 9-5.

The right-hander tossed six solid innings allowing Framingham State (12-10) to score four runs, one earned, on nine hits while striking out three and walking just one. He earned his third win in as many starts on the season while bringing his ERA down to just a minuscule 1.82.

The Falcon offense erupted for five runs in the bottom of the second. With one out and runners on first and second, freshman Victor Lebron (Union City, NJ) laced an RBI double into the left center gap. Sophomore Sammy Alejandro (East Hartford, CT) then belted a triple down the right field line which plated both sophomore Sebastiano Petruzzelli (Saugus, MA), who singled earlier in the inning, and Lebron to give Fisher a 3-1. The Falcons weren't done as senior Mike Oliveira (Tewksbury, MA) singled home Alejandro and came around to score on a throwing error by the FSU shortstop.

Fisher would add two more runs in the third inning, courtesy of RBI singles from Oliveira and junior Gary Lunetta (North Andover, MA).

Framingham State would make things interesting as they plated three runs in the fourth inning. Trailing 7-1, Danny Chaisson and Joe Sheehan both singled through the right side before freshman Tony Iafolla laced a RBI single. FSU would score the next two runs on an error by Fisher's shortstop and a RBI single by senior Chris Blydell.

Fisher (13-22) would tack on solo runs in the fourth and eighth before allowing a run in the ninth to close out the game.

A trio of freshman relievers pitched the seventh, eighth and ninth for Fisher College to secure the victory. Moises Melo-Reyes (Methuen, MA) allowed just one hit in his inning of work while Davidson Peguero (Boston, MA) struck out two in a perfect 1-2-3 inning. Andrew Hurd (Barnstable, MA) gave up a run in the ninth but was able to get out of a bases loaded jam as Fisher took home the win.

Mike Oliveira
Oliveira was the player of the game as he finished the evening going 4-for-4 with 2 RBI and played a terrific defensive second base. Petruzzelli has remained an on base machine as he was 3-for-4 while Alejandro went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI. Senior Jose Rodriguez (Clermont, FL), the team's leading hitter, added a 2-for-4 performance as he raised his average to a robust .355.

Framingham State saw multi-hit games from Will Crofton, 3-for-5, and Sheehan , 2-for-4. Iafolla, Blydell and Danny Tomasz, along with Sheehan combined for all of the RBIs.

Fisher will enjoy a day off tomorrow as they prepare for a four game series with Briarcliffe College. Saturday's double-header will begin at approx. 3pm inside the beautiful Fraser Field in Lynn, Massachusetts.
