Baseball Alumni top the Current Team, 13-9 in annual game

Alumni Game MVP Steve D'Entremont
Lynn, MA - The mark of a good, successful program is based on the alumni/graduates. The Fisher College Baseball team, now going into it's tenth season of play, has been quite dominant over the years. They have combined to win six Sunrise Conference titles, four NAIA Region X Championships and have made appearances in the Super Regionals/Play In Series six times.

On Sunday, October 10, 2010 the Alumni who started this impressive streak once again put on the blue and white and continued to dominate. The team was composed of Fisher legends, Fisher Athletics Hall of Fame members and a former professional ball player. The Alumni rallied from a 9-1 deficit in the fourth inning to defeat the current Falcon squad, 13-9.

"It is a great opportunity to see where this program came from and what we need to do in order to continue the tradition." said freshman Billy Lafferty (Haverhill, MA).

Evan Tardugno ('08/Methuen, MA) got the start for the Alumni and tossed four innings, allowing just three runs after a questionable call by umpire Brian Meikle (Sophomore/North Andover, MA). With runners at second and third and two away, Tardugno delivered a 1-2 pitch to sophomore Sammy Alejandro (East Hartford, CT) which was called a ball. Alejandro then walked and senior Mike Oliveira (Tewksbury, MA) lined a bases clearing double down the left field line to give the current squad a 3-1 lead.

They would extend the lead in the fourth as they pushed across four runs off of Alumni reliever John Jolley ('07/Stoughton, MA) to make it 7-1 in favor of the current squad. Patrick Shanahan ('10/Haverhill, MA) gave up two runs in his first inning of work, the fifth, and was able to strike out the side in the sixth.

In the top of the fifth inning, the Alumni team woke up and started to score some runs. Shanahan delivered an RBI base hit up the middle while Jose Reyes ('08/Bronx, NY) and Edwin Pena ('10/Union City, NJ) drove in a pair. However the MVP of the Alumni game belongs to Steve D'Entremont ('07/Haverhill, MA). He went an impressive 4-4 with a couple of clutch RBI doubles in leading the Alumni comeback.

"It's just one of those things," said D'Entremont after the win. "I haven't swung a bat in a while and I was just able to get that groove back right away. I am thrilled to be a part of such a huge win for the Alumni."

Ken Olisky ('06/Georgetown, MA) recorded the save as he pitched the final two innings for the Alumni team, Shanahan was given the win.

The other members of the Alumni team included Fisher College Athletics Hall of Famers Patrick Gaffny ('04/North Andover, MA), Jeremy Marion ('06/Pelham, NH), Joey Eugenio ('07/Lawrence, MA), Kyle Van Offeran ('07/North Andover, MA) and Patrick Holland ('07/North Andover, MA). Also playing were Jesse Avalos ('09/Haverhill, MA), Eddy Delcarmen ('09/Boston, MA), Jose Diaz ('08/Boston, MA), Jarlin Gomez ('09/Lawrence, MA), Luis Lara ('07/Lawrence, MA), Omar Ortiz ('05/Lawrence, MA), Zack Timmermeyer ('10/Lewiston, ME) and Anthony Perry ('08/Andover, MA) - the first Fisher Falcon to play professional baseball.
